APRIL 26, 2010
My admiration goes to the DieselFish Youth team for medal-ing in their
first dragon boat race last Saturday. Dieselfish Youth took the bronze
in the C division (out of five divisions) at the 9th Annual Youth Race.
The success of the team couldn't have happened without great coaching
from Darren Louie, Birk Lee, Al Yeh and exceptional steering from Colin
Morneau. Supporting Dieselfish cast members came from Alex Ling,
Marynka Rojas, Lin Moore, Joyce Lee, and Corinna Chiu.
There were so many DieselFish adults providing help and
advice to the youth that this email could go on forever. If you name
isn't listed here, I apologize. The bottom line is thank you for
welcoming the high school paddlers and believing in the vision that a
youth program within an adult dragon boat club could work.
At the race there were 27 teams participating - 25 were
high school teams. Two teams CYC and DieselFish were non-high school
teams. DieselFish Youth was the only team represented by an adult
dragon boat club. Like the proverbial shot heard around the world, I
was proud to hear "DieselFish" called-out at the award ceremony.
What does the youth parents think about this? You may
not feel it but you are role models for the youth and the future is
looking a little brighter since Saturday.
I uploaded photos from the event with a lot more to
come later from parents and paddlers. You can check the photos in the
gallery section of DieselFish's web site

Or you can submit during practice.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!!!!
You must be up to date on the ONLINE CDBA Waiver to be considered a
elidgable paddler in 2010. Please reach out to Joyce for more details
or if there's any issues with online waiver registration.
That's it!
In time. On time. Best time. Paddles up!

Long Beach
Weekend '08 —
The sun was bright, the sky was blue and the air smelled of... well, a
sewage spill, but we didn't find that out until after we'd already been
wading and splashing about in the water. And so began DF's 2-day Long
Beach extravaganza...

Fremont
Sprints '08 —
The 5th Annual CDBA Sprints at Quarry Lakes, Fremont CA marked the half
way point of 2008's US Dragon Boat season. DieselFish was able to enter
two full boats with a mixture of salty and new Fishies — clocking
up valuable competition experience in the lead up to the season finale
at Treasure Island CA...

CDBA '08
Regional Regatta at Paragon Point —
WOW! We couldn't have asked for better weather for our Season 11 race
opener! Leaving our homes at the crack of dawn and arriving to the
still waters of Paragon Point, no one knew what the day would hold...

Treasure Island
2007 —
Fishies, what a way to cap off the end to DieselFish's 10th
season. Treasure Island 2007 had it all. Starting from a killer
Happy Hour where some unnamed people had some body shots (what happens
in The Cellar stays in The Cellar...) on to some killer racing on both
days, and ending with some brews and Hot Mamas at Pizza Orgasmica...

Long Beach 2007
—
The sun rose on a beautiful morning for racing in Long Beach,
California. Fueled by Chicken, Waffles, and Syrup Shots, the mighty
crews of Dieselfish marched along the beach to victory...

Vancouver 2007
—
Mentioning Vancouver to DieselFish doesn't immediately bring up a
Canadian city in the Pacific northwest — it's much more esoteric
— it's a feeling, an experience, it's the red fire engine in a
toy store, that little dog in the window (woof woof), the one with
the waggly tail. It's friends, food, fun, it's brotherhood
and sisterhood combined to one brosterhood amalgamation; throw in
copious amounts of sushi and libations and how can you possibly not
create some hot, steaming muffin of lasting memories?...

Paragon
Point Races —
May 12 was a beautiful day for the season opener at Paragon Point in
Belmont, California. The Regional Regatta is the first official race
for all local teams to get their feet wet...

Season X
Kickoff —
On Saturday, April 17th the undivided attention of the San Francisco
Bay-Area was focused on Huddart County Park. Well, maybe not, but
DieselFish did have it's 2007 Season Kickoff Event. Over the course of
5 hours, fishies (both salted and fresh) ate, drank and made merry...

***Drum
Roll*** —
And yes — it's started! DieselFish's long awaited 10th
Season!! Go DF-X! The sun is out (longer) the weather's
warming up: it's time to wipe the cobwebs off the paddles and dust off
the pfds! I'm so excited to be kicking off this milestone season
with such a pumped up and dedicated core group of paddlers. And
I'm so very proud to see DieselFish running stronger than ever as we
round that decade corner...

Treasure
Island —
Next year we should remember to bring one other thing with us to
Treasure Island — flashlights! It's dark at 6:00 am at the end of
September. Nonetheless, DieselFish started to fill the paddlers'
village with activity early Saturday morning with tents, tables, food,
water, tarps, chairs, more water, paddles, PFDs (did I mention
water?)...

Victory
in Victoria —
DieselFish visited our friendly neighbors to the North to participate
in the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival over the weekend of August 19th.
In the beautiful Victoria Inner Harbour overlooked by the majestic
Empress Hotel and the British Columbia Parliament building, DieselFish
competed with 89 other teams from British Columbia, Washington, and
Oregon. Not only was DieselFish the furthest traveling team at the
race, but we were also the only team from California ever to race at
the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival!...
Strong
Beach —
On the weekend of July 29th two full crews of hungry Dieselfish
paddlers headed down to Long Beach to show our friendly SoCal neighbors
exactly how we bring it. By the time the weekend was over it was very
obvious to all exactly how we roll. Along with our pursuit of victory,
Diesel brings a deep hunger, an unquenchable thirst, a desire to throw
all into the water, an ability to concentrate through near collisions,
and of course as always the Diesel hotties bring it long and strong...
Fremont
Sprints —
Saturday, July 8th 2006 was the date for the annual CDBA/NCOCA Sprint
races at Quarry Lakes in Fremont, CA. Dragonboat sprints interlaced in
between the outrigger races. This was a fun event where both paddling
disciplines were able to show their stuff...
Winery
Bus —
9am we arrived tired and cold on a foggy San Francisco morning at
Crissy Field, yet we were ready to rumble! We quickly loaded up the bus
trying to recognize all the different faces...
Time
Trials —
On Saturday, June 10th, DieselFish held its first time trials of the
season. What are the time trials? It's a relative measure
of technique, strength, and endurance that is used by the paddlers to
individually gauge their performance over the season...
Paragon Point Race
—
beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
This is a broadcast from the EAS (Emergency Alert System) The following
message will be repeated:
"A Tsunami warning has been issued for the residents of
Paragon Point.
Berkeley Pier OC
Race —
The DF Outrigger team gathered at Shorebird Park in Berkeley to race on
the OC-6 for the first time this season. The crew for this race were
all first timers other than coach Ken: Chris, Sean, Thu, Kathy would
paddle while Ken steered...
Paddling
Catalina —
On Friday March 31st in the dreary rain, and before the sun had even
risen, seven of us; myself, Victor, Simon, Ken, Gordon, Chris, and
Sean, left for southern California as the first step towards the epic
41 miles ahead of us...
Winter
Challenge Wavechaser —
On February 18th, DFOCC participated in the BAIR Island Wavechaser race
in Redwood Shores. The great conditions and defending of our home turf
brought out one of our biggest turnouts for a Wavechaser race so far, a
whopping 14 paddlers!
