DieselFish, Dragon Boat for the Northern California San Francisco, Bay Area, Redwood City, Peninsula

DIESELFISH YOUTH

DieselFish Youth provides an opportunity for high school dragon boat club or individual youth paddlers ages 12- 18 to join in the rich history of dragon boating in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Many youth paddlers have already joined for team camaraderie, physical activity, outdoor adventures, developing new friendships, and cultural experiences.

About Practices

Team practices are free and are held year round on Saturdays from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Bair Island Aquatic Center in Redwood City. Bair Island Aquatic Center is centrally located and is within 30 minute from San Jose and San Francisco.

Coaching

Professional coaching is provided by the DieselFish dragon boat team. The coaches are adults volunteers with many years of paddling experience.

Equipment

The paddles, dragon boat and personal floating devices are provided free of charge by the California Dragon Boat Association

How safe is the sport?

While it is very uncommon for the boat to capsize, all paddlers are required to wear a personal floating device. An adult is always on the boat with the youth paddlers. At competitions, a safety boat is available at all times and the team steersperson is safety-certified by the California Dragon Boat Association

About Competitions

The Youth team participates in regional competitions in the San Francisco Bay Area. The largest competition is the San Francisco International Dragon Boat Festival in late September/early October. The second competition is the California Dragon Boat Association Youth Dragon Boat Race in April. Additional competitions are available throughout the year.

How Much Does it Cost to Join?

The DieselFish Youth Program does not charge a membership fee. The competitions charge a team entry fee. Youth members share the costs of the competition entry fee.
